About Me

Hi, I'm Claire Brett-Pitt, a Hatha yoga teacher of over 20 years. I discovered yoga at university as an extracurricular activity while studying for a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and loved both the physical and mental benefits it had.

I qualified with the  British Wheel of Yoga in 2001 after wanting a career change, and have been teaching ever since. I first started teaching adults, children and people with dementia, and realised I really enjoyed teaching yoga as a therapy. 6 years ago, I specialised in yoga therapy for cancer patients, working with them in their prehabilitation (pre-treatment/pre-surgery) and rehabilitation (post-surgery and during/after treatment), completing an additional post-grad qualification as a Level 4 Cancer Exercise specialist in 2019 with CanRehab Trust and Professor Anna Campbell.

I run daily classes face-to-face/online in Southend, Eastwood, Hockley and Shoeburyness for all  mixed ability adults, face to face classes at Macmillan Information and Support Centre in Southend Hospital and, since the beginning of lockdown, dedicated online classes for Target Ovarian Cancer, after finding there was clearly a need for cancer support online. All of these offer relaxation techniques and mediation, including breathing exercises, mindfulness and balance.

Outside of my classes, I have been involved with 5K Your Way, encouraging people living with cancer to improve their fitness and have recently got involved with Living Well with Cancer with Francesca Jaworska, a Cancer Nurse specialist for over 30 years, for cancer prehab and rehab exercise. Together, we already run HOPE courses through Macmillan.

If any of these classes appeal to you or you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
